Pros: This isn't a children's book of stories. No little duckies going quack or elementary stories.Cons: The author must be depressive or contentious, as the stories aren't fun to read. I'm not looking for inspirational tales, but happier ideas would be better. The first story concerns a married couple who fight over doing the housework (she's angry he won't help); and then they progress to overworked, self-employed worker who can't get enough time off; a hard worker who must sit next to ill-mannered children on a plane; a story of a six-year-old who steals food from others' plates so his family avoids him. The author needs to lighten up. My husband is reading an Italian for Beginners book by another author/publisher and it's a delight. He's learning useful words [not about bad manners or fighting, but useful terms], and enjoys the stories. I have read books with famous German's prose, normal stories---and this book, by far, has the most depressing or contentious stories. In addition, it fails to help the learner as it lists new words WITHOUT THEIR ARTICLE [der, die, das], so the reader doesn't learn the full word. Verbs aren't given in their full dictionary form so you know the stem or how to use them. A major failing! I'm disappointed.
